Durak (The Russian Game)This is a brief piece of propaganda for a Russian card game I learned at Summer Ventures. Taught to me by my good friend Iliya, it involves playing with sixteen cards missing from the deck. I should mention that it was designed to be played with at least twenty or thirty shots of vodka already flowing through each player's bloodstream, but take it from me: it works okay sober too. For complete rules, visit Pagat.com. It's a crazy game, and if you are at all into cards, learn it and play it. If you are not, get that way, then go back and do what the last sentence says. If you are devoid of a deck of cards and/or an opponent against which to play, visit the Java Durak site. I recommend Super Durak (up to four players), but if your browser doesn't support it, then just play Durak Online. I don't know why I care so much about this game. But I do. Play it. Spread it around. Share it with your friends. E-mail here with suggestions, comments, or whatever else. All material copyright © 2007 Stephen Rintoul. Some rights reserved. |
