Stephen's Summer '03

Summer '03 was one of the busiest of my life. I spent only two weeks having little or nothing to do, and let me tell you, that felt great. Not a lick of boredom touched my life from June till August. Just as a testament to the incredible summer I had, I've decided to re-post my "Where's Stephen When" page.

  • From June 8 until June 14, I attended the UNC High School Music Camp right here in my neighborhood. It was extraordinarily enjoyable, and I came home with tons of camp stories.
  • From June 16 until June 27, I was scheduled to attend driver education classes at my high school from 8:30 until 11:00. However, I passed the so-called "proficiency test," so it turns out I didn't have to be there after all. Later I got my behind-the-wheel learning time and received my license in time to drive most of the way to Boone.
  • On June 21, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling was released. Amazon shipped a copy to me which arrived immediately. For about seventy-two hours following its arrival at my door, I did nothing beyond reading, sleeping and eating.
  • From June 29 until July 25 (an extremely long time in the land of Stephen), I attended the North Carolina Summer Ventures in Science and Math program at the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone. I studied electronics and, for the most part, had a blast.
  • Starting July 28, I helped out the Technical Director in One Song Productions' The Phantom Tollbooth. It was pretty fun, although hot.
  • And on August 4, I went to visit my brother in Wilmington and spent some time at the beach, finally.
  • Upon arriving home, I had a newly ordered computer waiting for me with a hot new video card, so I fired it up and played video games from that time until August 20th, the beginning of school.
