2004 Updates Archive
This file contains every update added to the update page during the year 2004. I'm sure they're all fascinating.
December 31, 2004
December 29, 2004
- Fixed an HTML typo in My Theatrical Resumé which made it look kind of funny. (The typo did, not the fix.)
- Added a page about Children of Eden, the first play for which I was ever a techie.
- Converted a bunch of old
.gifs and .jpgs (especially the play title images) to my new favorite image format, the PNG (portable network graphics) format. It allows transparency, like .gifs, but also semitransparency, which is only supported by PNG. Unfortunately, you will only notice a difference, and a slight difference at that, if you can discern the difference between #220032 and #000000 when there's four pixels of feathering between them.
- Added a news post.
December 21, 2004
- Altered a few things about the guestbook. The script now sends me an email whenever anyone posts to it. This is just so I can keep appraised of the guestbook posts without checking the page itself. It's also to head off things like what happened today. Someone spammed the guestbook, so I deleted it. I've also disabled the thing that allowed HTML code to be expressed in the Comments field. Nobody was using it except for that spammer, who made a lot of Viagra® links. I've made the note very clear on the
/addguest.html page.
December 16, 2004
- Moved stray plays from the archives to the Theatre page.
- Because the archives were feeling bad after I took some of their best pages away, I added my page on Frances to them. I also fixed a glaring bug that my last archives page update introduced.
- Added some reflective information to The Importance of Being Earnest and Byuioo. The rest of the plays I've worked on are soon to come.
- Additionally, I made some of the plays in my theatrical resumé clickable. The rest will become clickable as the pages are created to go with them.
- Removed 1776 from the menu. It's been long enough that 1776 belongs only on the Theatre page. I left on They Might Be Giants, though, because they are so dominant.
- If that's not enough to keep you busy, stay tuned. I'm sure there's more to come very soon.
- I also noticed that I've been maintaining this page,
/update.html, for over a year. In fact, it's been 14 months as of last week. That's weird to me. My webpage has grown quite a bit since its inception. For awhile I was ashamed because it didn't have anything on it. Now, though, it has a whole lot. It wold take the better part of an afternoon to see everything my website has to offer. Perhaps that's the reason for its booming success. Who knows? Anyway, keep coming, ye citizens of the internet, and you won't be disappointed.
December 10, 2004
- Added to my political campaign platform, located within my Reaction to the 2004 Election. Everything from Healthcare down was added today.
- Added the Pronouns section to the bottom of About This Site, an infinitely fascinating addition that I'm certain will enthrall everyone here.
- Added a news piece. But I'm sure you saw that when you were on the mainpage.
November 21, 2004
- Added some "end-of-1776" material.
November 9, 2004
- Again, updated the 1776 article with another set of observations. These observations have a decidedly melancholy tilt on the whole play, but I just returned from a rehearsal that ran until 11:00 PM. I won't be surprised if I hear the midnight bell before this play has done.
November 8, 2004
- At last the server is back up. There have been two (one fairly significant) updates in the time that it's been gone, on November 4 and again on November 7. I apologize for the inconvenience. The technical difficulties have been resolved and should not arise again in the foreseeable future.
November 7, 2004
- Edited incorrect information on the 1776 page. Reservations can be made by phone two weeks in advance, not just one. This means that they can be made starting two days ago.
- However, I still haven't posted the updates I made at the last update point, because I can't access Andy's webserver due to an equipment failure. This problem will hopefully be solved soon, and if you're reading this, it already has been.
November 4, 2004
- Added a reaction to the 2004 presidential election.
- Added to the School archive an essay I wrote for Mr. Melega two years ago.
- The webserver is down, and so I'm the only person who knows about this update until it's back up. Hopefully by then I'll have yet another update up.
October 27, 2004
- Made a new news post making excuses for not having made any updates in a long time.
- Added an update to the 1776 page. It includes ticket information as well as an update about how things are going in rehearsal and tech class. Check it out.
- My apologies, again, for not posting anything more substantial than this, but I'm only one person.
October 6, 2004
- Removed the Request-A-Song link from the Links page in symbolic protest to the introduction of paid downloads.
October 2, 2004
- Finally added a summary of the They Might Be Giants concert that I went to last Monday.
- Added a shocking new piece of information concerning 1776. You'll have to see it to believe it.
- As a result, I updated My Theatrical Resumé.
- In order to completely integrate the new page, I added it to the index of the Theatre page.
- Changed the link to the Virtual Rubik's Cube in the Links section.
- Made a few small changes to the menu.
September 20, 2004
- I've been really busy, and I wasn't able to compose any actual material for the website in the past week, which makes this the second Monday that I've posted a news item without any actual substance somewhere else to go with it. For this I am truly sorry. When my life simplifies, you can expect more frequent updates.
- Just for your information, though, Andy did install PHP and MySQL (I don't know how to capitalize that) to the server, so I have some new goodies to play around with. I probably won't, though. I'm liking my HTML/CSS-based website for now.
September 13, 2004
- This is a pathetic excuse for an update, because all I did was change the news on the mainpage.
- Seriously. I did nothing else to the site. But I'd updated the news post roughly every week for a while now, and I didn't want to break the chain.
- I might put something more interesting before the week is out, although I am going on a college visit on Thursday and Friday.
September 5, 2004
- Went individually through every link on this page and made the links point to the location where the file actually resides now. I know I say in the header above that I links would point to the initial posting location, but I was bored and wanted to correct all broken links and so I changed it all. This is probably my most pointless update ever.
- I also removed Summer Plans from the menu, since the summer is over. It will probably eventually be moved to the archives in the manner of Summer '03.
September 4, 2004
- Added an animated spiral image to the long-neglected Computer Art section.
- More or less decided never to restore the Sitemeter to the menu. It frequently slowed down the loading of my page, and the novelty of reviewing every visitor's vital signs had worn off.
- Haven't put up a news post yet, but you might expect one before the night is done. Or you might not.
- It's here. It's a few minutes after midnight, but the news post is finally here.
August 29, 2004
- Added some pictures from the beach to the Photos section.
- Added the Theatre section, which began as an article and now includes also My Theatrical Resumé.
- Made even more changes to the Style Sheet. I love having different fonts for my headings. I am keeping in mind portability as I do this, though. While my page looks very different under a browser that doesn't support style sheets at this point, it still looks good, and it's very readable. Even so, 100% of my visitors' browsers support style sheets, so it's a moot point.
- Temporarily removed the Sitemeter icon/link from the menu, because it was slowing things down (apparently Sitemeter.com is having some problems).
August 22, 2004
- Added a piece about Frances, my new car.
- Added some code to the Style Sheet to make headings stand out more.
August 19, 2004
- Added a new section to the Gallery called School Assignments. This will include any assignment that was originally for school that I deem worthy of site posting. As of yet, there's just the old Exxon Spoof Page up there, but I'll get more really quick.
- I've already made a liar of myself. Since the assignment I was doing for AP Lit gave me the idea for the school section, I've gone ahead and added my autobiographical sketch, an assignment that's due tomorrow. An added benefit of this system is if I can't print something for whatever reason, I can point to the internet as evidence that at least the assignment got done.
- I also added the finishing touches to My Class Schedule.
August 17, 2004
- Re-worded the main Archives page. For one thing, I italicized a bunch of titles, because that's important to me now. I also reworded the description of Class Schedule '03 and renamed the file (can't just be classes.html anymore; there's got to be room for this year's classes).
August 15, 2004
- Posted my final class schedule.
- I don't think I've ever been completely satisfied with the menu, but I have a feeling that the most recent menu edit might do it. It's divided into the top part, which consists of general site stuff, and the part titled Current Articles, which contains recent things I've written.
- I also added a direct link to the Archives so you don't have to go through the Gallery.
August 7, 2004
August 6, 2004
- Updated My Class Schedule with a minor reorganization of the list of classes I want.
- Also posted a letter I wrote to Mrs. Butler-Williams.
- Other than that, this is kind of a non-update, because the only other change is the news.
August 1, 2004
- Updated My Class Schedule with new information about it.
- Nothing else, really. Didn't even change the news page.
July 28, 2004
- The first substantial update since the fifth chapter of Breaking My Wrist. When I got to looking at the site, I found that, despite being passionate about Tech Theatre, I haven't ever really written anything about it. Eventually, I think I'll devote an entire section of the site to it, but for now, I have just one page, and even it is incomplete. However, I've been working on it for awhile, and I think it's better to publish it now and update it every now at then. Otherwise, I'd never finish it, and you would never get to read it.
- I'll also extol the virtues of the CSS at this time. I just learned about classes. I've added some to tpn.css, the Style Sheet you see all about you.
July 22, 2004
- This shouldn't count as an update, because I didn't really do all that much. However, I changed the FAQ and the mainpage in subtle ways to correct information that was no longer true.
- I also moved a bunch of junk to the Archives. It's all old stuff; you've seen it before.
- I also updated the style sheet. You shouldn't notice any differences unless you're the King of Noticing Miniscule Things.
July 21, 2004
- In the interest of keeping interesting information on this site, I've made the rather weak move of posting my tentative class schedule for the coming year. Check it if you're interested. Otherwise, come back soon and there should be something more interesting.
- I also adjusted the menu a little. I removed two old articles and added the class schedule. When October rolls around, I'll take down the class schedule, and hopefully by that time I'll have new articles to post in the same vein.
July 18, 2004
- Updated the About Me page to reflect Andy's new place of residence, as well as a few other things about me.
July 15, 2004
July 7, 2004
- Added the fifth and penultimate installment of Breaking My Wrist. Unless, of course, I decide to add another after Chapter Six.
- Changed the news message on the main page, and added a News Archive as a repository for past news messages.
- Added something to the Coming Soon promises page. I hope to make it happen sometime before next week, because I'm aching to tell the world what I think of movies. If Ryan is out there reading, he will be pleased to know that I got this idea from his guestbook entry, and it's been growing and developing ever since.
July 5, 2004
- Updated my Summer Plans page to reflect my commitment to CYT.
- Added two photos to the Photos section of the gallery. They've been on my computer forever, and I just got to thinking it would be cool if they were on the internet, too. And so now they are. The top two are new.
July 4, 2004
- Today I started using the W3C Markup Validator to check out other people's HTML, and found that they don't use
<!DOCTYPE> either. So I stopped.
- I also put the Sitemeter counter back into my menu. I'm going to watch it closely, though, and if it takes up any bandwidth, it's going to come right back down again.
July 3, 2004
- Today I went to the W3C Markup Validation Service to learn whether or not my HTML is valid. It was found to be completely invalid, mostly because I don't use
<!DOCTYPE> tags to inform the world what version of HTML I'm using. I don't really care, but I'll be adding them to the top of my documents from now on, just in case the absence of them makes things hard for some browsers.
- I also went to Webmaster Toolkit and made myself a neat little menu out of a combination of CSS and HTML. It should be to your left.
July 2, 2004
- Uploaded the next installment of Breaking My Wrist. It just keeps getting better, doesn't it?
- I changed some references in About This Site. At one point, I used to refer to Dad as providing the server's internet connection. He no longer does this. I also used to refer to my frames there, and they are no longer (see below).
- Changed the news on the main page.
June 24, 2004
- At last I finished the next section of Breaking My Wrist. Sorry about the delay; I've been working on some other stuff too. Hopefully I'll be able to crank out the next few sections rather more quickly.
- Also, I was able to make the e-mail address stephen@threepistolnun.com forward to my normal e-mail address. And I like it better than my normal one, so I've made all the links on the site point to it instead.
June 13, 2004
- Uploaded a new picture of me to the Photos section.
- Sorry, no new parts to Breaking My Wrist today. Or for a week...I'll be at Music Camp.
June 12, 2004 (when I should have been doing a host of other things)
June 11, 2004
- Added my Summer Plans to the web site as per usual. They're not finalized yet.
- Now that One Song has a legitimate site, I added a link to it on my Links page.
- In an effort to keep my menu timely, I've taken down the Sweeney Todd article. It was over a month ago. Prom will be next. Don't worry, I'll add something new to fill the void. Also added the Summer Plans page to the menu, under The Stephen.
- Posted the new article Breaking My Wrist and added it to the menu. Be forewarned, though: this is only Chapter One. I figure I'll add the rest as they come to me. Don't expect more before Music Camp, though.
May 31, 2004
May 30, 2004
Did three things, only two of which are noticeable.
- Reworked the menu. It is now divided much more logically into three categories. I keep forgetting I get more space than just what's visible when the page loads. Still used to working with frames, when I had to walk on eggshells to keep that pesky scrollbar from popping up.
- Changed the color scheme. The forest green was nice, but I wanted to move back to something with a little more contrast.
- No one will notice this one. I've consolidated all my style sheets into one. This required me to make a minor modification to each and every HTML document governed by that style sheet. As a result, all of the Last Updated dates have been brought forward to 5.31.2004. This is unfortunate, but what can you do?
May 29, 2004
- Finally back online for real this time! Sorry again about the delay. Fortunately I have some new goodies for you guys: a pair of mp3s recorded by my friend Joe and me last weekend. You can find them in the Music section.
- You should be aware that I feel they're terrible. I know they're terrible. You don't have to be all fake and tell me that they're really good. Because if you say that, I know that one of the following must be true:
- You're stupid.
- You're lying.
- You're tone-deaf.
- You're just deaf deaf.
- Also updated the mainpage, adding a little SSI for what's going on with the website at any given time. Hopefully it will work.
May 21, 2004
- Finally back online! Sorry about the delay. The physical location of my website is now right here in my house. It shouldn't change anything for you patrons, though.
- Added a piece generally about the Spring Chorus Concert.
- Added a new piece of music, written and performed by me for the above concert.
May 9, 2004
- Added a piece on the CHHS Junior/Senior Prom, which I enjoyed a great deal. It includes a bad picture. But whatever.
- Since I had to post a picture for that anyway, I went ahead and put the Photos section into the Gallery. So far it doesn't contain much. Only the photos that were already on the site.
- Not worth mentioning, but I removed reference to my frames in the F.A.Q.
- Removed the Old Picture of me from the Archives since I have a place for photos now.
May 8, 2004
May 5, 2004
- The biggest change I've made in forever is one that won't really affect the site itself that much at all. I've added Server Side Includes to every single page. This allows me to eliminate the frames that were so irksome to Ashwin and to an extent, myself. It also makes it so I don't have to update the actual date in every file I alter. I can just upload the new file, and the last updated date changes automatically. It's awesome. Indirectly, it also means I can fit more things on my menu. So I won't be so discerning about what goes on my menu anymore. I'm really happy about this. I must thank Andy for the basic idea behind it. Yay!
- In light of that, I've decided to post a whole bunch of other assorted stuff too. First there's the page I wrote to explain to you all about my SSI.
- Second, I've posted a letter I wrote to my grandmother which tells about my trip to Chicago.
- Not worth mentioning, but I put Coming Soon on the menu.
- Wrote a little thing about my winter. Trying to decide whether this and the Chicago thing belong in Informal Writings, which I haven't made yet.
- Yes they do. Made the Informal Writings Section and added it to the Gallery.
- Fixed an SSI bug in the subfolders.
- Updated the mainpage, and I'm thinking about adding dynamic content to it, as well. Like a "What's happening right now" kind of thing. Then most of it could stay static. That'd be cool.
- Updated the Frame Discussion area, since I did away with frames completely now.
- Happy Cinco De Mayo.
May 3, 2004
- Updated the Sweeney Todd info, now that it's over.
- Also updated my page on Paul, to better reflect how I feel about him.
April 9, 2004
- Changed some of the information at the bottom of the piece about Sweeney Todd.
- Changed some info relating to Sweeney Todd and The Importance of Being Earnest in my About Me page.
April 6, 2004
- Added information on Sweeney Todd to the menu.
- Gave updated information on everything in the Coming Soon page.
- Took down that hideous background color and replaced it with a forest green color.
- As I'm sure you saw, I updated the mainpage with information about why I'm not updating.
March 13, 2004
- Because I'm feeling in such a springy mood, I changed the color scheme drastically to reflect that. It's now very springy, where it was previously wintry. Notice, all of you, how easy it was to alter. That's because of my handy dandy style sheet. I have to edit a single document and everything changes. I rock.
March 10, 2004
- Info removed about the no-longer-ailing Guestbook.
- Changed part of the menu to flash, as promised. I haven't decided whether I like it, however. It might not be here long. (And just think of those poor knaves who don't have Flash installed.)
- Changed it back because of a frame issue.
March 9, 2004
- Info added about the ailing Guestbook.
March 8, 2004
- Added the Coming Soon page. I didn't add it to the menu, because I wasn't sure of where to put it (menu space is at a premium right about now, especially with my settings). So for now, the only way you can access the Coming Soon page is through this Updates page. Messed up, huh?
March 2, 2004
- I wasn't thrilled with the way the Guestbook script I downloaded was formatting the results, so I found my way into the source code and altered a few things subtly. I hope I don't make anything crash. I also went through and manually made those formatting changes retroactive. Quite a task. But meaningless, repetitive action soothes me sometimes. And that's today's update.
March 1, 2004
- Moved the Earnest page to the Archives, since it's over.
- Also added the Star Trek intro to the Archives, so you can watch it again and again.
February 27, 2004
- Changed the Importance of Being Earnest page due to a rescheduling brought about by inclement weather.
- Added a Guestbook. Now you can go and rave about how awesome my website is.
- In conjunction with adding the Guestbook, I added a reference to its origin at my About This Site page.
- Also added a cross-reference to the Guestbook in the Contact page. And on the menu, of course.
February 24, 2004
- I altered the FAQ question regarding my intro animation.
- I also changed the Links page to reflect yet another update of Andy's site.
February 18, 2004
- I totally shouldn't be doing a site update. I have way too much else to be doing.
- But, I did modify the description of Andy's site on the Links page. I did this mainly because Andy's site changed. At least the mainpage has a background color now. That's an improvement. I suppose.
- Ever heard of homework, Stephen? Jeez. Especially on these rehearsal days, you don't have time to do site updates.
February 16, 2004
February 15, 2004
- Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.
- Changed the color scheme on every single individual HTML document on the site. And how? I used a style sheet. I rock. A lot. I taught myself to build a simple style sheet all by me lonesome.
- Obviously, I changed domain names. No longer am I a subdomain of Andy.
- Consequently, I've posted Ashwin's new Flash animation that goes with my new name.
- I removed my cloud fadey border frame, since it meshed only with the old background color.
- Added a Why Threepistolnun? page to tell you why and how I picked my new name. Twenty points for you if you already know. I also added it to the bottom of the FAQ.
- I also temporarily took everything off of the menu. I have my reasons. Soon, most of it will be back up.
- OK, now I put the menu back up, and I put my Future Plans into the archives.
February 12, 2004
- I added something I actually wrote during history class. It should be pretty boring, but it talks about a possible new color scheme for the site. Exciting, huh? And don't knock what I just did there. That took me a long time.
- I also updated the mainpage (and the intro page) with info about Sanddemon.com, which is now completely dead.
February 4, 2004
- Added my name anagrams page.
- Also updated the future plans and the mainpage, both of which are accessible from the menu, so I'm not going to bother linking them here.
February 2, 2004
- Why does it seem like I'm changing the Links page every single day?
- Also updated the mainpage with more information about meltediceguy.com and stuff.
- Also updated the page on my move to a new domain name.
- Because I'm a stickler for detail, I also change the URL that the "Andy" link points to on my About This Site page. Smallest, most insignificant detail ever.
February 1, 2004
- Once again updated my Links page. Even more accurate info on Ashwin's page, and some other cool sites that have been bouncing around my brain recently. ("Oo! That's a cool site! You should post it on the links page, Stephen." After which I prompty forget whatever it was. But now I've assembled them all into one place.)
January 31, 2004
- Updated the mainpage with details of a move to occur in one month. I'll keep you guys up-to-date on my decisions regarding that.
- Added Future Plans page to the menu. This categorizes my four choices for action regarding the aforementioned domain name shift.
January 30, 2004
- Removed Byuioo from the menu, since it's officially over forever as of today.
- Also moved a lot of old stuff (six items) into the Archives area. Now you can access every page still on the server through links from the mainpage. (That's a good thing.) Anyway, it was a massive undertaking, for very little actual substance added, so deal with it. I'm tired.
January 28, 2004
- Updated the About Me page to reflect my current age and provide more details about certain parts of my life. I also took away the picture. I'll put a better one up later.
- Updated the Links page. It now includes one new site and better information about An Idle Mind.
January 21, 2004
- Updated my Rent page due to the urgings of Ashwin, whose site has finally begun to develop. The Rent page now contains brief details about what I liked and disliked about Rent.
- Added info on two plays that I'm working on: Byuioo and The Importance of Being Earnest.
- Updated the main page.
January 2, 2004
- Updated my Rent page since I've now seen it.
