People and Things

Fall 2008

My new room, with Laurent Jefferson Memorial Sunset over the Potomac Old Glory by twilight
Pennsylvania Avenue Laurent Canoes on the Potomac Teddy Roosevelt
The view from under the Roosevelt Bridge Swamp flower (I'm terrible with botany) The Key Bridge A blue-tailed skink
Cranes over Washington Dupont Circle metro I thought this was the Washington Post, but I'm pretty sure it's not Union Station
These are dolphin protesters in Dupont Circle, marching for dolphin rights Train is a-comin', oh yeah My roommate Tristan
These are all from a 14-mile walk I took from campus to the Capitol and back. I saw a huge building, a black squirrel, and a building shaped like a boat. Also: want to know how to look like a Washington native? Dress like this, apparently. I got stopped and asked for directions like four times!
The US Capitol Flowers at the National Botanical Gardens. They also have a cool sustainable living exhibit outside in the courtyard. The National Cathedral, not far from my campus.

CHCI Public Policy Conference & Awards Gala

I covered this for my internship with Hispanic Link.
Geraldo Rivera Washington Convention Center, site of the Awards Gala Barack Obama, the evening's celebrity
More Obama Intrepid reporter Stephen Rosie Perez accepts an award

September (mostly)

National Archives Me and my room Pretending to be Robert Gates What Tom Brokaw sees
Various TV set shenanigans Tristan, dressed up to go out

Fredericksburg

I went on assignment to Fredericksburg, Virginia in search of swing voters.

Sights of downtown Fredericksburg
I think this was part of a church This is what a Republican house looks like I just liked this house Cool plant, right?
The dry Rappahannock River Just like colonial times! The most fall-ish tree ever
A cute kitty on a porch in Fredericksburg

The Rest of October

At CBS, Facing the Nation It's Bob Day: Schieffer and Woodward!
John waiting to ask Woodward a question Me and Charlotte eating lunch at Potbelly's Mom and aunts at Teddy Roosevelt Island
We went to a folk music show! The Hutch News at the Newseum The Natural History Museum (with cool new Ocean exhibit)
At the Washington Post Sterling, Virginia: trees, a caterpillar, and telephone birds

Halloween

The first couple pictures aren't very Halloweeny, but they were all taken on Halloween.

Laurent at Lunch Me on the train, looking concerned The Capitol: at dusk and twilight (if you haven't figured it out yet, this is one of my favorite Washington buildings to photograph)
Washington Monument with orange sky Carsten is creepy, no? Captain America doesn't think so.
Cool political display on East Capitol St. My favorite is the Palin pig.
A neat Barack-o-Lantern The crew again. Carsten still creepy. Me and Joe!
